My 1st Souvenir
The 1st week on the World Race I broke the screen on my netbook. Mark Sratmann, a World Race Alumni who currently is working in Thailand, said no problem, we can get the screen replaced.
Mark and I took the computer to a computer shop who said no problem, come back in 30 minutes and we will have a new screen installed. 20 minutes later we went back and the computer guys said there is a problem, when you try to turn on the computer, there is a loud beeping noise and the computer would not turn on. They said to come back later that evening and they should have it fixed.
We went back that evening and they brought out a cardboard box with a million small parts to a computer, pulled out a piece and said your motherboard is burnt. We explained that the computer was working fine when we brought it in-just needed a new screen. They said they would take responsibility for it and would have the computer fixed in a week. They asked if we wanted them to fix the computer or if we wanted to take the computer (all in pieces in a box) with us. We choose to have it fixed.
About a week later, the computer guys called and said they were not able to fix the original computer but could place the hard drive and memory in a new computer. We agreed. Mark and I went in the next day to make sure the computer worked. We go in and find out that the new computer would not recognize the Windows Operating System from the original computer. The computer guys stated they could install a new Windows Operating System and Office by that evening. We agreed.
We went back that evening and picked up a new Tai Computer complete with Tai keyboard with all the original programs installed and running great. Cost of repair: $100. We left for Cambodia the next day.
