I was recently invited to a rehab ministry for a bon fire. After the excitement of everyone trying to get close enough to the roaring fire to roast their mash mellows, we all settled down for the Bible study. At this point the leader of the ministry ask everyone what was their favorite Bible verse. The first one to pop in my mind was just a simple introduction to a letter written by Peter. “Simon Peter, a servant and apostle of Jesus Christ, to those who through the righteousness of our God and Savior Jesus Christ have received a faith as precious as ours.” 2 Peter 1:1
This means that you never have to worry about being “good enough” to tell people about Jesus. It is through His righteousness and love that we can carry The Word to people. You don’t have to be a good speaker or be able to have an answer to every question. we don’t have to be afraid to tell a stranger about how Jesus has saved us. being able to lead someone to Christ isn’t about the “size” of your faith it is about the object of your faith.
If you put your faith in your ability to speak, sing, preach, or whatever, you have your faith in the wrong thing. When Jesus wants us to go talk to somebody and tell them about the only way to Heaven, he will give us the tools needed to minister to that person. When God sent Moses to Egypt, Moses quickly came up with excuses. God tore down all of his excuses and gave him the tools he needed. I heard someone say once “God doesn’t call the qualified, He qualifies the called.” Through the righteousness of Jesus we have all of the qualification we need to share his name. Anything else that we need he will give us on the way.
