It was the last day before we left Nepal, and I was walking to the store to get a bottle of water like I normally do, and God showed up in such a crazy way!!!!

So the month in Nepal was exhausting and so different compared to any culture I had been to previously. Trekking in the Himalayas, working with street kids from the slums, and living in a home that housed single mothers and youth that have been brought in from the streets. I had stuff stolen, gotten sick, and the area we were sleeping in flooded. It was cold and the pollution made it hard to breath at times, and on top of all of it, trying to communicate seemed to be impossible at times. I saw people question who God really is and the theology they believed because of some of the stuff we saw spiritually. Needless to say, it was a challenging month, then came the day before we left….

We were staying in a hostel for debrief and taking a couple days to recharge and be together as a squad. Everyone was tired and the idea of leaving Nepal wasn’t too much of a challenge to comprehend. It was a good debrief, but God wasn’t done showing us he still had plans for Nepal and I was blessed to be used in this situation. Like I had stated previously I was on my way to get a bottle of water, which I did and was on the way back from the store. Out of nowhere this 19 year old guy started walking next to me and started talking to me. This is not unusual everyone seems to try and sell you something when you are walking down the street, so you get into a habit of ignoring people (not always the best answer). He told me he was just trying to speak English for class so I said its cool and we started chatting.

He asked me about where I was from, and why I was there in Nepal, which is the normal conversation starter. I mentioned I was with the church, and this is where the story gets good!!!!

He looked at me and said Jesus? I responded with a surprised yes (because most people I’ve talked to are Hindu and if they know Jesus he is just another God). He then asks me if I can tell him about Jesus…..I said of course and we started walking down the street!!!! I told him about what sin is and he asked me questions like can he pray in the Hindu temples if he knows Jesus, and when I said no he just kind of agreed. I told him about the crucifixion and resurrection and he asked a few more questions. Then when we were walking I stopped in the middle of the road and asked if he wanted to know Jesus, he said he did. He asked God into his life, and after he said amen he stepped back and grabbed his chest where his heart is. He was so shocked, but excited at the same time because he said that he had a feeling he had never had before!!! We started walking back to where I met him and he asked me if he should continue painting a Hindu painting he has been painting, and before I could even answer he said in his heart he thinks he should not, so he will paint Jesus instead. Then he told me he was going home to tell his family about Jesus and find a church to go to…..

This whole entire thing, I did not do a single thing except do what I was called to do and tell people about Christ. He approached me, and told me everything I was going to tell him anyway. It’s so awesome that when you listen to God and don’t ignore people that God can really work! This story has nothing to do about me, God was ready to move and if I had not listened I may have hindered the process a little, but it really shows that even in a place where Hinduism is so prevalent and God is just a forethought, God is still saying I love my people and I am going to rock there world, and give them a path to me!!!!
