Sometimes God works in ways that make me laugh, first at him and then at myself. He likes to showoff sometimes, just to get me a little razzed.

Today, my mom and I spent the day in Orillia doing some thrift-store shopping and going to a few doctor’s appointments.

On our way to lunch at the Mariposa Market (God bless that majestic place), my mom suddenly spoke up (which she doesn’t get much chance to do when I’m around) and said “Since you’re listening, God , I want a parking space right in front of the market. Thanks”.

I laughed out loud at the fact that she had just asked that of God!!

But up there in heaven, my good pal God was laughing at the fact that I didn’t believe He would do it.

On a busy, beautiful Saturday there was NO chance there were going to be any empty spots within a kilometre of the market.

But as we rounded the corner, much to my surprise, the parking spot directly in front of the Mariposa Market was waiting, empty.

I almost expected the sky to shake as a consequence of God’s laughter – that, or the clouds to form a giant face with an “i told you so” look on it.

Upon finishing our lunch we jumped back into the car and headed home.

As usual, I turn on the radio looking something half-decent. But, of course, there’s a super-annoying girly song on the country channel. Ugh.

Poking some fun at my mom, I prayed aloud, “since you’re listening God, I want ANYTHING sung by a guy, enough with the high-pitched sounds, brother”.

I start flipping through the channels:

105.9 – Carrie Underwood, bust.

99.5 – something awful by Celine Dion, bust again.

107.5 – Lady Gaga, you’ve got to be kidding me.

At this point my mom and I were laughing hysterically!

Finally, I scan to 100.3 – our Christian radio station – and I kid you not, the beautiful voice of Chris Tomlin singing “Our God Is Greater” fills our car.

Our laughter was replaced by the humble chuckle of our Almighty Father.

At this point, I HAD to give it up to God!

I applauded Him for the gentle, humorous reminder of His power to perform miracles of ANY size – even if it’s just to make me smile over the comfort of his presence.
