Sometimes people stop you when you’re walking by and ask you what you’re doing in their town.
The guy in the white translated everything for Ashlee, who took this picture, and me.

Ladders were non-existent in the church we lived in in Sandanski. Katie (the tallest of all of us)
did a great job of staining the window sills. Ashlee and I did a great job spotting.

For two nights, we had no ministry contacts to put us up for the night.

We also met up with an American missionary couple, Dave and Mara, who went to the same church as
Michelle. She had no idea they were in Bulgaria until we were here.

This was the great view outside of the church we attended for a youth conference in Veliko Tarnovo.

We also spent a couple of days in a village outside of Veliko Tarnovo planting trees for a park they are building.
It was kind of a big deal that we were there. We even made the front page of the newspaper the next day.
Hooray for newspapers.

Mystery meat, pickled cole slaw and a raspberry drink called “Party Club!”
This is what the mayor’s office served us for lunch.

After working for about an hour after lunch, the mayor’s people came out with more snacks. Chocolate bars and what Brandy has here–warm goat’s milk.

Our trees weren’t perfectly straight, but they’re so cute!

Sandanski, Bulgaria is only a couple of hours from Greece. We took a day trip on our day off to Thessaloniki, Greece.
Here I am dipping my feet in the Mediterranean.

In Thessaloniki.
