Here’s a random assortment of things I learned in Ireland this month:

1.       * If someone on your squad and/or team is sick, be prepared to be sick within the week.

2.       * When a 4.5 minute shower costs one or two Euro you think twice about how clean you really need to be.

3.       * Turning 27 in another country can bring on the homesickness, but luckily God placed six people with you who are choosing to love you and give you a great day. Please watch Emily‘s birthday rap at the bottom of this blog.

4.       * Worshipping God in bars is so much fun.

5.       * You can keep your feet warm through the night by filling up your water bottle with hot water and sticking it in the bottom of your sleeping bag.

6.       * The Irish have interesting taste in chips, or crisps as they call them. One flavor we never braved: prawn cocktail. And “tangy” cheese actually means they taste like plain Doritos.

7.       * Almost everything is a /pub. I am now sitting in a coffee shop/pub.

8.       * Being vulnerable, open and honest is scary, but can be really beautiful and freeing.

9.       * My decision to bring so many Q-tips was a good one.

10.   * Many things can be taken away from us…our tents (seven were busted in the crazy wind), our rights, our comforts, but nobody can ever take away from us our worship. (This was taken from a prayer prayed by Austin Anglea on our last night of worship as a squad.)

Month one is over. Romania here we come!
