Team Bamboo Brigade is going solo for the next 4 weeks. We have arrived in Mozambique where we will be serving alongside Don Foster. Don is a very hardworking, lone missionary at this Iris Ministries base. He is working on Project Benjamin through which he ministers to boys who grew up in orphanages. After leaving the orphanages where they became “institutionalized”, they found it extremely difficult to acclimate to Mozambican culture where they no longer have someone preparing three meals a day, go to school and have a scheduled time to play and socialize with friends.
Here in Matolo and Boane, we will have our hands full for the next month to serve in many different capacities. Along with helping to “bridge the gap” with these orphaned young men, we will be visiting villages all over and putting on screenings of The Jesus Film thanks to resources provided by Campus Crusade for Christ. We have several projects to work on including: planting a garden, building a house, leading a children’s ministry time and worship at church, discipleship, evangelism, teaching, and praying over the sick, visit with the elderly at a nursing home and much more.
What I’m really excited about is how our team will be ministering to each other during this time by ourselves. Six people living in a house together is much different than 30 people together. We are taking advantage of quality time with just each other. It’s gonna be awesome! We journeyed Sunday afternoon hitchhiking into town to get groceries and CRAMMED into a bus and got everyone to sing along to a song on the radio!
This is Africa so please be patient with blogs and pictures because internet is sparse and slow in this area. Love you!
