I met a missionary couple today.

I can’t mention their names.

Or where they live.

Or the details of what they do.

But their story has impacted me.

They can’t leave their home for months at a time, yet they stay where God has placed them. There is little freedom or earthly comforts, yet they haven’t walked away. There is much they cannot say and the progress is slow, yet they haven’t given up. Others doing the very same work around them have been murdered, yet they stay.

Why?

It is easy to choose to be sent out when I have a safe home to return to at the end of the day and a warm bed to cuddle up in. It is easy to make the choice when I am surrounded by community who are praying for me and encouraging me daily. It is easy to make the choice here, but this couple posed a question today:

“Are we there for the long run or just as long as things are good?”

How deep does my resolve go?

“It is not the beauty and comfort around us that we need to keep us going. It is the beauty and comfort inside of us that keep us going.”
