The other day we went on a prayer walk around the neighborhood where we’re staying, and as we split up into teams of three, we went out and just prayed that God would speak to us and show us what way to go, and who to pray for and with!! So we started walk and praying! God gave me the direction to go right, and he gave Will the name John, God gave Andrew the words Trust and Release!
So went right looking for someone named John!
Along the way we got to pray for a man and his young daughter, when we asked him if there was anything we could pray for all he said was “for peace”!! Then we meet a lady and her son and they asked for prayer for their family and health! Right as we were about to pray for them their bus drove by, but she didn’t seem to mind misses the bus so we could pray for them! Afterwards we walked some more, then we stopped to talk for a second and discuss what we had seen and what we want to see, and Andrew told us a story about a time when his team prayed for someone and then a miracle happened, what they had prayed for God answered!
As we were standing there God gave me this visual of one foot in front of the other! And right before I could tell the guys a lady opened her door behind us and without even looking she threw out some old food right at us!!!! So we moved!! We just started walking one foot in front of the other, we turned the corner and started heading back towards the school still looking for someone named John, when all of the sudden Andrew says “wait, isn’t his name John!?”
Sure enough there stood Jean-Pierre, the night security guard for the school! He did so much more for the school than just security, he always seems to be looking for way to help out without necessarily asking! That morning he was standing on this small desk painting the new logo for the school on the front gate. We went up to him and told him that God had laid it on our to pray for him and asked him if there was anything in his life he needed pray for, he asked us to pray for his family and his schooling! So we prayed for him! Later we found out that his family had disowned him for being a Christian, and that he had been waiting for a while to get his test results back to find out if he had made into university or not!!
It was so cool to have that time where we just stepped out in faith not knowing where to go or what we were doing! We just started praying and walking, and God did the rest! We had no clue who God was talking about when he gave Will the name John, as we set out to find someone named John God lead us to pray with some who weren’t named John and that in itself was an amazing experience! We had no clue what Jean-Pierre was going through, he just asked us to pray for his family and studies which are the two most common requests we get when we ask people here if there’s anything they need prayer for! But later on God revealed to us why he lead us to John Pierre!!
One thing that God has continued to show me everyday is that he will guide my steps! Until that day I had never done anything like that before, and now I want to do it everyday!! There’s something so beautiful about stepping out into the unknown and actually putting our faith in God into practice!
