Well, I suppose it is about time I posted a fundraising update…
First, I would like to start off by saying how much I truly appreciate all of the support I have received over the last couple months as I have been beginning this journey. Whether you supported me financially, with prayers, or in encouraging words, I cannot tell you how much it means to have so many of you partnering with me on this adventure! Thank you!
I have had several fundraisers that I have started up in the last couple months. The first of which, and the one I will share the most about has been Flamingo Flocking.
Here is how it works…
I ordered a set of about 20 yard flamingos online and when they came in I made 2 signs. The first said “YOU’VE BEEN FLOCKED!” The second said “This is a mission trip fundraiser. For details contact Maria Todd” with my phone number.
I would then go out under the cover of night and fill someone’s yard with my flock.

Once all the birds have landed in someone’s yard, all that is left to do is wait….
When they called me I would explain that there was a price for removal. For $10 I would come remove the birds, for $15 they could send them to someone else’s house, for $20 I would tell them who sent the birds to them, and for $25 they could have all that plus one of a kind flamingo insurance to ensure that they don’t migrate back. When I got the call, their response never failed to surprise me. Here are some of the responses I have received…
“Ok ok, how much to have these birds migrate?”
“I seem to have a problem that only you can fix! Jody said animal control won’t handle calls for flamingos and since they seem completely oblivious to the cold, I don’t think I can wait for them to migrate south. I need help before [my daughter] declares them family pets :)” – Jessica Culley
As word got out about the Flamingo fundraising, some people were anxiously awaiting their turn to send the birds off to a new home. This was the case for my friend Jen who, upon being flocked responded with a single word…
“Awesome!!!” – Jen Alijewicz
And then of course there were my two personal favorites.
“It seems that the two flamingos we tend to keep on our property have reproduced, and I didn’t even know that this was like their mating season… so apparently they have been extremely productive, and we should have never left them unattended” – Jody Austin Dominguez
This one really made me laugh…
“Thanks for dinner!” – Bud Drylewicz
In addition to the Flamingo Flocking I have also been selling t-shirts for $20 and bracelets for $5.
I have made over $600 which has been invested in gear, put into my account, or helped to pay for the fundraisers. If you would like to partner with me and support this trip financially you can click the “support me” tab.
Thank you again for all your support and prayers. I look forward to sharing this incredible journey with you. Don’t forget to subscribe to get more updates on what God is doing in and through me on this trip.
Yours in Christ,
Maria
