Last night God gave me a great reminder of his SOVEREIGNTY.
I was driving my friend home at about 8:00 last night and we were about half way there when the second car ahead of me slammed their brakes then drove off leaving behind nothing but skid marks. The car behind them then slammed their brakes barely stopping in time to avoid hitting the first car. Then I hit my brakes, unfortunately, because my car is pretty old, I could not stop in time. As my front bumper collided with the back of their car I could hear the sound of plastic and metal cracking. I had just been in my first car accident.
Now this is where I stand amazed at God.
As soon as we pulled off to the side of the road, the man driving the car I had hit got out and came to my window asking if we were alright. This surprised me, I expected something more along the lines of “WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?!?!?! ARE YOU CRAZY?!?!?! YOU NEED TO DRIVE MORE SAFELY?!?!?!” But God knew that in this moment, when I was already freaking out, I needed kindness and understanding. As I apologized and asked if they were alright, he again responded with kindness simply brushing it off saying “these things happen, as long as nobody is hurt that’s what matters.”
Then as the evening unfolded God continued to bless me in all these little ways.
Everyone in both cars was fine, there weren’t even any airbags deployed in the accident.
His car was just a little scratched on the back bumper, and while the front bumper of my car was pretty well destroyed, there was not really any damage to my car (it is still drive-able).
My friend who was with me is also a Christian and in the middle of my panic, was there to remind me that God is in control.
I was not cited for the accident, which means that I will not get points on my license and it will not go on my record.
The cops that came to file the police report were very kind and understanding.
In my panic, I handed the police officer an expired insurance card, which he did not ticket me for.
Despite the events of the evening being really stressful, God was providing for me in every moment of last night and He was giving me a great opportunity to recognize and remember who He is.
Even in the bad times, God provides us with exactly what we need! He wants to bless us and He wants us to remember that He is in control!
Ecclesiastes 7:14 In the day of prosperity be joyful, and in the day of adversity consider: God has made the one as well as the other, so that man may not find out anything that will be after him.
Isaiah 45:7 I form light and create darkness, I make well-being and create calamity, I am the Lord, who does all these things.
Romans 8:28 And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.
