When Diego announced we got to do a woman’s event my heart was so happy! I have walked through so much healing over these past two years of what it means to be a worthy daughter of the highest King and I couldn’t wait to pour into these ladies.
The community event was split into three sections: for men, for women and for children.
I was in the women’s event and as we came together I had figured I would take point and say the message since I have gone through so much healing but as we came together God had something else in mind. All the girls were so excited and passionate with beautiful stories as well on their journey to worthiness. I felt God tell me to step back on this one, that I will be able to share another time but for now being the encourager for the ones who are sharing about their past.
We were told the night before and it was so much fun to be apart of a group of passionate women who sincerely wanted to bless these women in the community. We started to plan, making pretty decorations, planning out the order of operations, and what I loved most of all was, listening to worship music and writing them notes of different Bible verses in Spanish.
Going to bed with so much excitement for this event, praying for breakthrough and sitting in the awe of thankfulness that so many of my fellow squadmates get to share in the freedom and redemption of Christ Jesus!
As the event came closer, we all showered, put on our (world race) Sunday’s best and set everything up. Our event met in our dining area, so we put arrangements on each table, pretty pieces of paper, paint supplies, coloring supplies etc.
As the women entered the door we had greeters who gave them each paper to write their names, then we escorted them to their seats and gave them some fun treats to eat and drink.
We had every seat filled by the time I got in front of everyone and introduced who we were and what we do and why we were here. Blessed to be looking out at each of these women and seeing each of their faces. They’re all children of God. Women who might live in an indigenous community in a jungle of Costa Rica but they are still His daughters. Daughters who struggle with worth and value. Daughters who are caught up in chains that need to be broken through the love and freedom of our Christ, Jesus!
After I finished I went to the back, which was inside the kitchen, sat up a chair and spent the rest of the time interceding. I definitely love to be in charge and lead and speak but God has given me a spiritual gift where I get to take this new role in the background and just pray. It was such a beautiful time for me and Jesus. Praying for each woman in the audience and praying for every person sharing. God brought up Psalm 139 and I just got to write that whole chapter down and recite it over each woman. It was such a cool experience!
While I was doing that, one of my teammates got up there and shared her story. A beautiful story that brought her to tears and touched each of our hearts. She shared with such vulnerability and I am so thankful for her because vulnerability breeds vulnerability.
Our next part of the event was one of the my squadmates sharing her story of who she was before Christ and with Christ. She walked everyone through the activity we would be participating in. On the pieces of paper the ladies were to draw a line down the middle and draw in their lives who they were before and after Christ. What were their identities in each of these seasons in a couple of words.
A couple of us went first and I prayed so hard as we transitioned to our first woman of the indigenous community that she would would be truthful and share what has happened in her life, to step into vulnerability… and she did! It was soooo cool to watch each of them, stand up and share the sin they lived in that they were set free of. There were tears and chains were broken, praise our Lord and Savior!
There was one women in particular that stuck out to me. Her name is Maria and I posted a little about her on my Instagram.
She shared a little bit of her story with the group. How before she knew Christ she was constantly trying to impress the men around her and flaunt her body. She thought affirmation from men was all there was and she strived to feel that love. Then, she met JESUS! She realized she didn’t need or want to live a life full of worldly desires and affirmation. That the literal ‘never failing love’ that Jesus pours down on her fills her entire heart and she feels so loved all the time. It’s crazy how night and day different lives become once they find Jesus. Thank you Father for changing this woman’s life, for bringing her home and showing her your crazy love!
We ended in a in a time of praying over each of the ladies. It was truly a spirit filled event and I feel honored God allowed me to intercede during the event and learn more of what that role looks like.
After we finished and cleaned up, we met up with the two other groups. It was very good hearing the men’s perspective of how it went. They didn’t plan much and in that the Holy Spirit moved so hard in these men that came to the event and there was so many tears.
I absolutely love it when people cry during these moments because that is a symbol that an emotion has been triggered. An emotion that the Holy Spirit is working through and healing. Past wounds coming alive and being healed and redeemed. It’s so powerful!
Overall, it was such a successful event of love. Getting to love on these men, women and children in this community. To share the light of Jesus and to celebrate them & Him!
Thank you Jesus that we got to do this!
