Ministry has been really amazing here in Malawi. As we walk through villages it sometimes feels like we are a parade or famous. All the little kids who see us yell out azungu which means white people in Chichewa, the Malawian language where we were at. They get so excited and run up to us not even hesitating to grab our hands and walk with us. Little kids of all ages do this and it does make you feel very special.
During our programs we do each day, this particular day was a very small group of people who came out to spend time with us. We start off with singing African songs, you dance and then dance some more. A few songs in we all started dancing together. It was a sight to see, a bunch of azungus dancing around in Africa. People were stopping to watch. What was so fun about this day were kids from all directions came running to watch and join us. Before we knew it there were so many kids jumping up and down with us! They stayed the entire service with us and sat there to listen to the word we brought. I got to count how many kids were with us and it was 49 that came running to join us that day.
At the end of services you shake everyone’s hand and almost every kid just wanted to touch your hand and then run away. It’s so cute because you really do feel special. The best part of the day is a kid grabbed each of my hands and we walked all the way back home. It’s a funny sight to see each of us world racer having a kid on each side walking down the street. When we got to the house before we said goodbye the kids all lined up to do this weird handshake/clap.
This just blessed my heart! It’s interesting to see their little dirty faces so happy to see us and that someone like me can put a grin on their face. It made me think that we can be that influence they needed.
