I have had the incredible opportunity to minster to many children here in Guatemala. It has been such a blessing to play with the kids here and show them Christ’s love.
As I have been spending time with the children, I began to notice a pattern. Whenever I did something, they would do the same exact thing. I began to play in the dirt with some kids and I drew a heart, then they drew a heart. I drew a smiley face, then they drew a smiley face. So then I started playing hacky sack, and then they wanted to play hacky sack. Then I played with their hair, so then they played with other kids hair. And so on and so forth.
These children here literally imitate everything that I do. The influence that I am able to have on these kids is greater than I ever fathomed it would be. As I thought about the influence I was having on them, I thought of the quote from Spiderman “with great power comes with great responsibility.” I began to ask myself, what kind of influence am I having on these children?
As the kids follow my example, my hope is that I am able to show them Christ and lead them closer to the Father’s heart. I hope to help them learn how special they are and how much Jesus loves them.
And just like how the kids follow me and desire to do everything that I do, I desire to follow Jesus and live exactly how He did; selflessly and unconditionally loving people and serving them.
As this month continues, I pray that I would continue to lead these children in the right direction and at the same time I would learn what it means to be an imitator of Christ.
