Here is what a typical day in Masaka, Uganda looks like:
6:30-7:30: Wake up and do my devotion. Spend time in God’s word and listen to worship music
7:30-800: Eat breakfast which typically includes bread, boiled eggs, bananas, and coffee
8:00-8:30: Help wash the breakfast dishes and get ready for the day ahead
8:30-8:45: Pack 11 people in an 8 person minivan and leave our house to go teach at school
8:45-10:30: Teach English to wonderful 9-13 year olds who are eager to learn and love English
10:30-11:00: All the teachers take a break and we eat porridge and drink tea together
11:00-1:00: Teach more English to different classes and also teach the children about America (culture, food, sports, school, etc.)
1:00-2:00: Eat lunch which includes rice, beans, and various fruits
2:00-3:00: Wait an hour to go minister to a village because we are on African time and things are NEVER on time in Africa
3:00-4:00: We drive to a remote village and on our way our car gets stuck in mud. We pushed the car out of the mud while our shoes and clothes got filthy
4:00-5:00: We share the Gospel with over 100 adults and children in the village. I spoke about how important education is and the big plans God has for His children. We invited people to come up and pray and 10 people dedicated their lives to Christ (oh and we were the first white people to ever be in that village)
5:00-5:30: Visit an older man who recently had surgery and pray for him. We also prayed over his daughter who is HIV positive. Then we prayed over a young man who wanted to accept Jesus as his Lord and Savior.
5:30-6:30: Drive home and enjoy the beautiful scenery of Uganda
6:30-7:30: Help prepare the table for dinner and play with our ministry hosts 3 wonderful children
7:30-9:00: Say grace and eat a delicious dinner which includes pork, mashed potatoes, bread, and some other Ugandan side dishes that are wonderful. After dinner we sing a song and say grace again and then drink tea together (I drink hot cocoa)
9:00-10:30: We have team time and discuss what we experienced throughout the day and talk about what we have learned and what God is doing.
10:30-11:30: Watch an episode of Gilmore Girls on my computer then head to sleep to start the next day!
Everday here is an adventure and I am loving every minute of it!!!
