Our host in Romania would say this a lot.
“Copy paste Jesus.”
It’s catchy, and makes you think for a second before letting out a chuckle. Could it really be that simple?
Yeah, actually.
Let’s start with this: God made us in His own image (Genesis 1:26-27). We are the original knock-offs, except we were created out of Love, not cheap pleather.
Fast forward to when God sent His one and only Son, Jesus–the Messiah, our Savior. Jesus came and walked the earth as a man (John 1:14). God literally walked among us. He felt our pain, He walked miles in “our shoes.” He had a family and friends and things bothered Him. He wept. He taught. He ate. There are so many reasons why God might choose to dwell among us as a man and not as any other creature. There are actually a few hundred prophecies + a few thousand years of sin that add up to the Son of Man, but we’re not going to get into that.
But God gave us a perfect example of a life, lived out in human flesh, walking the earth, in perfect communion with Him. There are some really great people to look up to–in history, in the bible, around us. But none is the perfect example of a sinless life. Jesus blessed us by dwelling among us, so that we might look to His life, His works, His relationship with the Father, and see the most beautiful and blameless blueprint for a life of our own.
So if you’re struggling with figuring out what to do, or how to act. Look to Jesus. Study His life. Copy. Paste.
“Therefore be imitators of God, as beloved children; and walk in love, just as Christ also loved you and gave Himself up for us, an offering and a sacrifice to God as a fragrant aroma.” Ephesians 5:1-2
