If you’re looking for the essential TC packing list, I’m sorry to say you’re in the wrong place.

Part of me wants to give you a detailed list of every single thing you’ll need during ten days of tenting, sessions, and field scenarios. The other part of me wants to keep you in the dark, because you really only need one thing to get through Training Camp.

The truth is, you’ll survive Training Camp without coffee. You’ll survive without a mess kit. You’ll survive without 30 extra carabiners, and you’ll survive without your 8-pound study bible. But the one thing you really, truly need to bring is your “yes.”

Say “yes” to trying new foods. Say “yes” to honoring cultural guidelines. Say “yes” to deep, challenging, intimate time with God. Say “yes” to the Spirit inviting you to pray over your squadmate. And say “yes” to this great adventure that you’re already on.

So you might want to scour WR blogs for as much info and as many pro tips as possible. But my advice is not to do that. Instead, pack light. You will be missing things. But it’s only 10 days. You will have too much stuff. But you’ll learn not to pack that next time.

There’s no perfect TC hack out there–you’ll figure things out along the way! Being materially unprepared isn’t the worst thing in the world. Take a break from packing and frantic Target runs and use this time to prepare your heart instead.

Training Camp was such an incredible experience. I could go on for days about it, so feel free to reach out to me to chat more! I’ll be using these six-ish weeks before launch to raise support, spend time with friends and family stateside, and uh–finish packing…
