A year ago today, I was anxiously waiting to hear if I was going to be accepted to iQuest, a ten week internship with a mission organization in Jamaica for the summer ahead. Part of me hoped I wouldn’t be accepted, because continuing down the life path I had built for myself where I wasn’t happy, would have been infinitely easier. Chasing passion, surrendering everything you are, and relying solely on God for the most basic of needs isn’t easy. But I didn’t ask for easy.

I had no idea at the start of last January, but 2017 would eventually become quite possibly the best year of my life. And I’m beginning to believe it was because of just that: I had no idea. No expectations in place, no list of resolutions for my life or the year ahead.

And now, this is the year I will leave for the World Race. In just ten months I will leave my life, family, and friends behind to surrender nearly a year of my life to the Lord. Traveling to eleven different countries and living out of a backpack for eleven months doesn’t scare me as much as it probably should. What scares me is those ten months leading up to it.

I’ve recently been reading a devotional study called “Walking as Jesus Walked: Making Disciples the Way Jesus Did.” It’s an important lesson and reminder in my own life, but I also think this study is opening my eyes to a much-needed call to action for my generation. Reading Jesus’s teachings, posting them on Instagram, and proclaiming them to the world are one thing. But truly allowing them to change every word out of your mouth, every action you make, truly walking as Jesus walked, is something else entirely.

So, I’ve decided that 2018 is my year of no resolutions. The year of living simply, of taking each day as it comes, and of looking to Jesus and remembering that He isn’t done with me yet. The year of aligning my feeble heart with the Lord’s and following His steps to walk as He did. I truly have no idea what the year ahead will look like for me, but I believe that’s the greatest opportunity for God to move. I’m praying He does just the same for you.

Thank you to those who are already following along and supporting me on my journey, and a great big welcome to those who have yet to come!
