So I’ve had a lot of questions about the world race, and I thought I would answer them!

What is the world race?
The World Race is a program put on by the Adventures in Missions organization. It is a mission trip for young adults from 21-35 years old, to 11 different countries in 11 months.

How does it work?
The participate applies, chooses one of the available routes, is interviewed, and then is accepted to join the team. The participate is required to raise their own funds to go on this mission trip. We’re talking thousands of dollars, people! The money is raised, the racer goes to training camp, and then heads out around the world, to be the hands and feet of Christ. They partner with local missionaries/churches to help them with their ministry, while living in community with fellow christians.

Where am I going?
Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Argentina, India, Nepal, Armenia, Georgia, Romania, Albania

See map below of the countries and the list with the months I’ll be in those countries!

Who will I be with?
The organization forms teams called squads that go together on each route.
My Squad is leaving October 2018, we’re the 5th generation “N” Squad!
On my squad are 25 lovely people!

Once we get in country, we divid up into 4 smaller units, called teams (or for some reason we’ve been calling them “squids”, not sure where that started…)
That means 3 teams of six and 1 team of seven!
Below is my team/squid.

What will I be doing?
We will be in our teams helping as we are needed to our ministry hosts.
We partner with local missionaries and churches, in there outreach and missions. Anything from teaching english, VBS, leading church services, helping at orphanages, construction work, and so much more… So in short it could be a wide range of things…

Why am I doing this?
I truly feel the Lord has called me to take this journey with him…
Is it going to be easy… NO…
But I’m being obedient and one step at a time, following his lead.

How will I be traveling?
There will be some long plane rides…
So cramped bus rides…
Some interesting car rides…
Those are the ones that are pretty safe to predict… I’m sure there will be plenty of options, witha bunch of stories to go with…

How have I been preparing?
I’ve been praying…
I’ve been digging in to the word…
I’ve been gathering supplies… for you see we can only take a backpackers bag (around 55-70 liters?) The max weigh is 40-50 pounds! Plus a daypack, as your carry-on. So when you wear both backpacks you look a bit like an over stuffed turtle!
I’ve been raising money…
I’ve been getting shots…lots of shots…

Doing routine check ups at the doctor & dentist…
Getting everything in order to leave the states…
Downsizing…sorting and more downsizing…
I’ve been spending time with my peeps… encouraging each other…saying goodbye…feeling so blessed to have these people in my life… and to call them friends and family…

What did you do at training camp?
Wow, how to answer that…

In short,
there was a lot of self assessment about our personal relationships with the Lord…
talk of the Holy Spirit and His power that we are given to use through him…
an opening of our eyes to some cultural norms, from around the world…
getting to know your squad…
developing teams…
learning about the Lord…
eating food from all over the World…
cold bucket showers…
forming friendships…
sleeping in a tent…
sleep in “an airport”… well a simulated one… with the noise soundtrack… “Flight 354 is now
boarding…” and all…
a lot of packing and unpacking our bags…
worship through song…
and so much more…

Did you get a lot of shots?
Yep, tons of shots…

Yellow Fever,
Tetanus,
Hep A,
Typhoid Fever- well this was pills…
Japanese Encephalitis,- this is actually 2 shots
Rabies- this is 3 shots
Flu,
and I’m taking Malaria meds with me…

Yes, that’s a lot…

How can you help?

Thanks for asking…
