While in Bolivia…

I’ve compiled some facts and info about the country that I’ve experienced below:

– They like their toilet seats to be cushy

– You can find a Burger King, but no McDonalds in town

– They eat rice a lot

– Their money is the Boliviano.

– $1 usd = 6.9 BoBs or BS

(Picture of some Bobs )

– This is the first country where we have ridden a charter bus with no AC…(needless to say it was HOT… which made it sweaty!

– Santa Cruz de la Sierra, normally has strong winds that come through. That help for the weather not to be too hot. Although it is quite hot and muggy here.

– The city plan is made with circles around the center.

– At the center circle is the grand square, with a Catholic Church that opens up onto it.

– Their are four circles around the center if the city.

– This was the first boarder crossing that we had a difficult time getting through, commonly know to some Americans as “the revenge tax.”
( The USA has many different restricts on the Bolivian people and quite a few for the visa to enter the country!)

–  They are super strict about the $160USD that they required at the border. That all money be crisp with no tears or creases in the money.
( I mean the guy checked every $20 bill, and if it wasn’t good enough, you had to find another one from somewhere!)

– They eat a lot of chicken and make a lot of soups, meals with bone in chicken & other meat.

(Yep folks, that’s a chicken foot in the soup!)

– One of the traditional meals of Santa Cruz is rice & carne (beef) with a fried egg on top.

– There is a lot of sand here, which makes for interesting little sand storms when the breeze is strong!

– It is a Very humid South American country

–  Lots of different bugs

– Monkeys in the trees (in fact at the children’s home we stayed at, early in the morning we would see & HEAR small monkeys playing in the trees! Also, the children have been known to see sloths climbing the trees too!

– A lot of butterflies (these are beautiful and colorful, but very common to see!)

In my personal opinion, I feel the Bolivian people have been the most generous! Although, not the most developed country we’ve been to in these past months, overall the people are the friendliest and most caring!

What a country!

Bolivia I will miss you!
