Something awesome happened recently, my parents Sunday school, just up and decided to give me $100! They knew that my hardcore fundraising was over, that I was fully funded, but sent along this money with my Mom as she came to visit me! They said I should use the money for something fun!
So I decided, I’ll get a cute saree, while in India! It wasn’t like I needed it for ministry or really was going to wear it that much. But, in my heart of hearts I felt like I was going to regret not getting one. You know having been to India, and the thing you think about in India is the beautiful, colorful sarees that the women wear! So I felt like I wanted to get one to remember my time in India by! (It didn’t help that all the other teams got one and my team didn’t, mainly because they needed them for their day to day work, where as; for us to wear one while hanging out with the kids would have been really difficult and it probably would have fallen down multiple times.)
(Look at my sweet friends in their sarees! Yes, they had help putting them on!)
So I talked with one of our contacts about where to get a saree in the city! We set a time and a place to meet. It’s all set, Monday we will meet to go look at a shop of a his friend’s mother! Well that’s what I thought, what really happened was a lot of miscommunication and misunderstanding! It’s ok, we’ll try to go another day with a place from another contact…but nothing seemed to work out!
The days kept clicking down… Each day that passed I lost a little bit of hope of getting a saree… but also I got a peace about not needing a saree! I kept telling myself… “Mallory, yes they are beautiful, and it will be unique, but girl you don’t even know how to tie it! And it’s not like you can bring home an Indian woman with your to tie it!”
So guess what?
I didn’t get one!
It’s ok, I have peace about it!
So back to the money that was given to me…
I’m now in Nepal and I think what is something special that I can do with this money!
(Here I am at the airport, having made it to the Nepal; after 29 hours of being up with only a small hour long nap!)
Nepal…. what is Nepal known for?!?
Huh… the Himalayan mountains, Mt. Everest, yaks!
Mt. Everest… what!?!
Wouldn’t it be cool to hike Mt. Everest!!!
Yeah right, I’ll just watch a documentary on it and call it good! Because let’s face it, I am no where near being in any kind of shape to hike that serious mountain!
But… they have this plane ride around the mountain that sounds pretty cool! So a group of us get together and sign up to fly around Everest! A once in a lifetime adventure! So I think I’ll use that $100, plus a little extra money to see this famous Mountain! We sign up, pay our money, and get excited to report back to the tourist shop at 6:45 in the morning!
The next day… at 6:30 in the morning, I hop out of the bed ready to go! At 6:40 when we walk outside it starts to rain and as we speed walk the rain increases more! At this point I’m thinking oh no…. this isn’t looking good!
Lord, please let us be able to go!
We arrive at the tourist office, we all piled into a van and were off to the airport to catch our flight! 15 minutes later we arrived at the airport, this time we run through the ran into the building! Oh great, it seems the weather is worst! We check in, grab a warm drink, and wait for our flight!
5 minutes before we are about to board the flight… we get bad news…. OUR FLIGHT is CANCELED!
So we all grab our stuff, head back to the van, head to the tourist office, get our money back, and head back to the hotel & into our warm beds! Making it back by 9am! It was cold and rainy the whole time!
So…. I still have this $100!
Not only do I have this $100, but it’s all in Nepalese Rupees?!?
What do I do with it?!?
I don’t have a clue!
So we continue on to ministry for this month!
Our hosts discusses what we will be doing…
And guess what?
One of the options we have is to trek into remote villages and share with some unreached people about Jesus!!!
What?!! How cool is that?!?
One catch… it costs more than the usual Worldrace daily budget?!?
So that means that if we want to do this trek, we are paying for it out of our own money or out of additional raised money!
At this point, I remember about the $100, and think wouldn’t this be so great to use that money for this!
So that’s what I’m going to do!
And I can’t help but think, the Lord orchestrated things so that this money could be used for this opportunity to trek into remote villages!
Just as it says in Isaiah 55:8 “‘For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways.” declares the Lord.'”
Wow, how HE works!
***Actually it’s a little bit over $100, and if you feel lead to help with the financing, please email me at [email protected]!***
I can’t wait to see what great things the Lord is going to do in these remote villages!
That’s all for now folks…
More to come in the future…
