My heart has been broken so much by our lack of awareness and attention to the things that break the heart of our God.

Much of our ignorance may be attributed to how little the American media covers the strife of third world countries.  I know that at times I have glanced over at the TV during a report of a third world country and said, “How sad…” and gone back to eating my dinner (Example from
Hotel Rwanda).   I don´t understand why I don´t know about modern day genocides until they make a movie about it.  I know that after watching
Invisible Children, I resolved to make an effort on my part to be more informed about the current state of our world…  I am so grateful to organizations like Invisible Children and Save Darfur that make such an effort to open our eyes.  I know there is so much happening in the world that I still don´t know about.  How can we act unless we care?  How can we care unless we know?  So my question for you is this…

Have you Heard?

Please click on the link above to read Michelle McBeath´s post about the current situation in a third world country.  By posting this, I DO NOT want to provoke any guilt or blame.  I DO want to take this opportunity to inform you as much as possible about the current crisis in Mozambique.

Floods, worsened by a cyclone, have devastated the country of Mozambique.  The following reports are taken from World Vision reports, Planet Ark, and Relief Web.

“Maputo, Mozambique, February 26, 2007–Massive flooding in central Mozambique, made worse by last week’s arrival of tropical cyclone Favio, has now forced about 165,000 people from their homes in one of Africa’s poorest countries. The majority of displaced families is living in makeshift settlement areas with limited or no food, water, sanitation facilities or shelter, according to World Vision’s relief teams on the ground. The needs remain acute, as the majority of displaced families have lost their maize harvests along with their homes…
floods that have already killed some 40 people…
Children are malnourished under normal circumstances, and 50 percent of the (refugee) camps are made up of children. In every camp we went to, people said they were hungry.”

This is just a tiny window into the Mozambique situation.  Stay tuned for more updates.  Until then, I echo Michelle´s sentiment:

Within this next month, the World Race team will be attempting to enter the country of Mozambique to help assist there in the recovery and relief efforts.
Throughout the next few weeks, we will relay specific needs as we discover them.
For now, however, I simply ask that you begin to pray for the country and people of Mozambique.
Please pray that the Lord would begin to prepare
our hearts for what we are about to enter into as well.”

Blessings.
