After a couple of bus rides and two flights, we arrived in Lima, Peru late last night. We are currently staying with an AIM contact here, the same contact A Squad will be working with all month. Our current “home” is a church outside of Lima.
We, as B Squad will be participating in an orientation tomorrow, and then heading to the mountains tomorrow night! We will be stationed out of a town called Juarez and travelling to small villiages. As always, we do not really know what to expect. We will likely have “squatter” toilets and bucket showers for the next month! Again, we are expecting limited internet access. At the least, I will be able to update once a week.
We started off with a bang here in Peru – today was Race day! With Jake and Mary staying back in San Jose for a few days, and Michelle and Kim both sick, it was Eric, Kelly, and myself to race. Luckilly, we were able to borrow media team member Chris Telfer to join us for the race (as each team must have 4 people participating).
It was a day of excitement, adventure, and…. a lot of running! The race had ten components, highlighting visiting notable areas in the city of Lima. It really was amazing! We began by running several blocks to a historical site, which just happened to be on the Pacific ocean (gorgeous). Other components included visiting a catacombs site with tons of skulls everywhere, swimming a relay in the ocean, visiting the Manos Morenos restaurant to eat COW HEART (not kidding… we chowed down Fear Factor sytle), grabbing some crab bread stuff in Chinatown (yes there IS a chinatown in Lima), taking a horse drawn carriage ride through the park, and racing to the top of San Cristobal, which overlooks the city.
It was an awesome day. Even though I am exhausted (WAY too much running for me… I am perhaps a tidge out of shape!), it is a good tired. And even though Agapetos was the last to the finish line (boo), due to some time deductions from penalties, we place second in the end. It was a good race, and it was an amazing opportunity for us to sample the beautiful city of Lima!
Please pray: 1) For Peru. That God would break us for these people. That the Spirit would go before us and prepare us for what the Father is doing. 2) For our travel and settling in, in the mountains. 3) For Agapetos. In general, and That Michelle and Kim will regain energy and health. 4) For me. That I would seek hard after the Lord and that He would continue to complete His will in me.
Yours for the Journey
