Angkor Wat is an ancient temple, nominated for one of the new manmade wonders of the world. And it is a must-see for anyone visiting Cambodia. It was created by the Khmer people in the twelfth century to honor the Hindu gods and buddha. Though Ankor Wat and the surrounding temples were mostly reduced to rubbles during the destructive rule of the Khmer Rouge, the Khmer government with help from other countries as well, is putting in the painstaking time and effort to restore this ancient site. It is known as the largest religious structure in the world.

The family. (Minus Jake who is travelling ahead on logistical assignment and minus Kelly who is sitting with the Lord in Africa).

What amazed me most about Angkor Wat was that it captured two extremes: enormity and intricacy. It is absolutely huge, but intricate designs are etched into every wall and pillar. It is extraordianry.

We spent an entire day exploring, discovering, learning, and, of course, climbing. (Eric is wearing off on me). I do realize that these are a lot of pictures of me, but please understand… I’m appeasing my parents. And I’m photogenic. 🙂 One of my favorite sites was one of the smaller, nearby structures. If you look closely, you can see faces carved into the rock.
