After being in the hospital for three nights in Thailand I am finally reunited with my team here in Myanmar. Honestly not being able to leave with everyone at the time that I was supposed to was really frustrating at the beginning. I didn’t think I’d be there for more than one night, but I had peace about it. Being confined to a bed and an IV, I had a lot of time to process this past month in Thailand. The Lord spoke to me very clearly while I was there and taught me to rejoice in the little things. I’ve been in Myanmar for a little over a week and I absolutely love it here.
We work with a missions college and teach them English five days a week. Our house we stay in is right next to the college so we walk to ministry in about 2 minutes. On the other side of the house is the orphanage with the most amazing kids. Every Sunday we have church in the morning and at night, joined by the missions college students and the children from the orphanage. I’ve already had the opportunity to share my testimony and lead worship a couple times. Every day we eat eggs for breakfast, ramen noodles for lunch, and fried rice for dinner that we cook ourselves. Even though we have to use squatty potties and take bucket showers, this place feels like home to me.
Nothing about Myanmar is familiar to me except a need for the Gospel. The unfamiliarity of the market, men wearing skirts, and the language is so fascinating. There’s so much history here. Even with all of the temples , you can still feel the presence of God. His presence never leaves us. He is still louder than the singing from the temples that wake us up at 3 in the morning. There’s nothing better than Sunday night church hearing all the kids voices triumph over the noises from the temple and the children from the orphanage singing, “What a Beautiful Name.”
I had never even heard about Myanmar until a couple months ago and now after seeing what God is doing here…all I can say is I’m blessed to have the opportunity to be used in a small part of His big plan for this country.
