We’re in Zimbabwe!
We’ve been here for over a week now and have helped with a VBS, visited 2 old folks homes and an orphanage, gone to church, and painted a mural (can you guess what the mural was???).
At the first old folks home we helped clean and cook lunch. And then at the second home we helped clean a little and then started to till land for a garden. On Thursday we painted a mural in the dining room at the first home. Here it is:
We also visited an orphanage called Good Shepherd. Timon is the name of the man who helps run the home and he gave us a tour and told us all about how he came there, about the kids, and about the projects they are doing. There are so many projects they have done, or started, but can’t continue either because of finances or water restrictions. I was amazed at the faith he had in the Lord providing and the joy he showed despite hard circumstances.
We helped (but mostly participated) at the VBS called Champions the first Friday we were here. It is a VBS for kids that are positive for HIV/AIDS and it is a time that they get to hear about the Lord, get to hear about their worth and value as a human being, and just get to have fun. It was awesome singing songs, sharing a story, and playing games with the kids, and at the end we got to pray for them. Throughout the whole event the person in front would yell out “Champions!” and everyone else would yell “For Life!”
These are some of the things we have done so far! More to come!
Keep the faith,
Malia
