Hello Dear Friend,

Last summer, I went to Guatemala and I fell in love with it. I felt like I was supposed to go and God blessed me literally every turn when it came to preparing for that trip. For years, even before I was a Christian, I talked about doing something like teaching in another country. God was planting those desires to prepare me for the plans He had (still has) for my life. Since going to Guatemala, I have felt led to go… I had the desire before, but it blossomed into so much more during my time there. I knew He was telling me to go, I just couldn’t figure out where. I looked online and talked to people but nothing really “spoke to me”… Until I read a Facebook post about the World Race. Now, I had heard about it before but at the time thought, I could never do that. This time, as I devoured everything I could find on their website I thought, I need to do this. For days I read blog after blog, each time crying because it spoke to me. Late one night, well after my usual bedtime, I couldn’t sleep because applying to WR was consuming my thoughts. So I prayed, turned my application in and finally went to sleep. The rest is pretty much history. Since being accepted I have felt excited but also, scared, unsure of myself and nervous about the funds. That being said, I know I am supposed to go and that God will provide for me spiritually, physically and financially.

So what is the World Race? Thankfully, it is not actually a race…I am more of a slow walker. The World Race is an 11 month mission trip that takes place in 11 different countries. During this time, I will be working with a community of fellow Christians serving “the least of these”. I will be leaving my family, my career, my comfort and relying completely on the Lord. The countries I will be going to (this is subject to change) are:

  • Rwanda
  • Uganda
  • Ethiopia
  • India
  • Nepal
  • Cambodia
  • Thailand
  • Malaysia
  • Guatemala
  • Honduras
  • Nicaragua

What can you do to help? Provide for me.

Spiritually: I will be in constant need of prayer. I will be stretched in ways I never dreamed of. My human self is weak and cowardly. Doing something this bold is completely out of character for that part of me. Pray that I will keep this about Jesus Christ and not about Makita. While I know He will use this time to change and grow me in Him, it’s not about me. It’s about spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ through the showing of His love.

Financially: The most common and typically the first question I get is “how much will this cost?”… And the answer in a worldly sense is scary…The actual cost is $16, 275. That covers housing, travel, travel insurance and team food. It does not cover everything. *see wish list for additional financial need

Other needs: If you would like or feel led to support me in other ways, I have included a wish list of items I am required to have that I am not in possession of!

I was right when I thought I can’t do this… But luckily I don’t have to. Because God can do this and He is the one doing it through me. I am excited and ready to go. I can’t wait to see what God has in store for me.

All My Love,

Makita Bueto

“Let us also lay aside every weight, let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:1-2

Wish List

  1. Extra funding. I will need money for toiletries, additional food, and emergencies. They recommend bringing $200 a month. At 11 months, that comes to $2,200. I will also need vaccinations. I am humbly asking for $3,000. If you feel led to give a portion of this, the check should be made out to me.
  2. There are several items I need for the trip. If you would like to purchase one please get in touch with me. The items include:
    1. A 35 degree (or higher)  sleeping bag
    2. A tent floor protector
    3. A sleeping pad
    4. A sleeping bag liner
    5. A good hiking sandal
    6. An internal frame hiking backpack
    7.  A freestanding 2 person tent

There are a few other little personal items I will need such as sunscreen, and vitamins.

These items are all on the pricey side. As I said in the support letter, I know God will provide! Thank you for your love and support during this time!!
