Hello friends, family, and other peeps!
My name is Makaela! I am 20 years old and am currently enrolled in Sam Houston State University as a senior in Huntsville, Texas. I am currently studying Healthcare Administration and am projected to graduate this December (woohoo)!
I was born in Houston, Texas and was raised by my beautiful mom, Amy. I am super blessed to have such a supportive momma and family, they have truly inspired me to be so out-going and loving. A few years ago I gained a really amazing stepdad (Fred) and he gave me two step sisters. So, all in all, I have FIVE little sisters! It’s been such a joy being the “big sister” growing up and I definitely miss being around them with each passing day I’m away in college.
This is going to be my VERY first mission trip and I am so excited to see what the Lord is going to teach me and His plans to use me! A few short months ago, I started to ask myself the question “How can I get closer to Jesus than I was yesterday?” on a daily basis. I felt the Holy Spirit pushing me to serve, so, I volunteered at a prison ministry one Sunday. I didn’t really expect much from it, and I was extremely nervous. But, as God does, He surprised me. I found that I thoroughly loved talking to these amazing strangers about Jesus. It became even more evident then, that I would learn more about Jesus through ministry. Their deep desire to learn and know Him really spoke to me and my walk with Christ. So, I started to pray. It was in this growth and prayer that I started to research where I could serve and I found the World Race Semesters!
I am extremely thankful for this opportunity and to see what the Lord has for me and my team next year. Although this world is extremely crazy right now with a worldwide pandemic, there is still broken people to be reached (myself included). The short answer to why I chose to go on a mission trip is this: because He’s worth telling about. I am so glad that we serve an Almighty God that chooses to leave the 99 and pursue the one lost sheep, even when the world sees them as a lost-cause.
“And he said to them, ‘Go into the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned’.” Mark 16:15-16
