Important: The photo that follows is not for the faint of heart or small children.
Time continues to escape me here in Nicaragua. Despite the daily breakfast update on the status of our “count down” to the end of the Race.
Minutes passed a little more slowly the first half of the month as I basked in the opportunity to measure my success through cleaning or Logistics needs in the morning. I then soak in the slow seconds and endless patience of many a local community host in the afternoons as I try, with minimal success, to hold my own in all Spanish conversations.
Plodding along all was well. But who wants to cross the finish line plodding?
Their arrival was stealthy like a special ops team. A second group of Americans joined us early Sunday morning. Rested and ready to pour out for the week they are a welcome addition to our final month.
I see it as re-entry practice by being on an American schedule and having resources to tackle bigger projects. Case in point, there are three engineers in their midst so I helped build a 12’ scaffolding yesterday. My charge, the circular saw.
Dad, I still have all my fingers and toes – I know you are so proud!
Along with a list of new to do’s they are breathing life into us in many other ways:
- They have affirmed I can still effectively communicate in my native tongue (a point in question at times in the last year I assure you)
- They are rested physically and spiritually (you can hear it in their prayers)
- They are fresh and playful (hosting a water balloon fight yesterday, so fun!)
And, they are still all about eating weird food when all I really want is Chili’s.
I thought about posting the video I took of his demise. However, I haven’t watched it yet and I am not sure how much actual footage I have of the act since I recorded much of it looking the other way. But, well, this is how he lost his life and I assure you it was a sawing motion and nothing close to the swiftness of a guillotine.

Iguana, who knew it could help you more than plod across the finish line.
Experience Summary: It goes in like chicken, kicks back an after taste like fish and the consistency is “chewy”.
