“Majil.”

“I’m sorry, can you repeat that?”

And so it goes, most every introduction follows the same script.

“Majil, pronounced like the month of May, Jack and “Jill”, May-Jill."

What does it mean, well, let’s explore that…

Initially it meant daughter to two amazing parents who played an integral role in my becoming a daughter to the King, then sister, grand-daughter and niece. With time, Majil evolved into friend, student, mentee, followed by mentor, colleague and, twice over, aunt!

In the age of Google, other definitions include “Queen of the spirits” if you take the American Indian derivation or “a watering place” if you take an India, Indian derivation. I am not so sure about either of those. Actually, I wonder, before I adopt any allusion of royal lineage, “what kind of spirits? Are they fun…?”
