Medicine in the Bush

Coming into this orphanage and seeing all the children, as a nurse I can not help but see a cuts and scrapes as well. Since our plans to move the orphanage had been delayed by some unforeseen circumstances, I had the opportunity, with Jen, one of the other nurses, to put together a short health clinic for the children.

We did a short teaching on hand washing, body washing, teeth brushing and basic first aid. Then we had all the children demonstrate the skills. So they all brushed their teeth, took a bath (which is not an easy task in the bush because you have to walk about 1 km to pump water from the well and carry it back) and then the three of us nurses were able to bandage up all their cuts and scrapes. I love being a nurse and I love taking care of the children whenever I can. Thank you Lord for making me a nurse.
