This past weekend we had the privilege to minister to kids…lots of kids! On Saturday we focused our efforts on helping the YWAM group with the block party that they had planned for the kids in their neighborhood. We set up tables for face painting and the princess station where little girls could get their hair done and nails painted. Brian, one of the YWAMers had a station where kids could through wet sponges at him…they all loved that station. We served hot dogs to all who came with Christian Spanish music in the back ground. The party was a hit.
The following day my group was in charge of hosting a kids program at church in the evening during the service. Pastor Willie mentioned the need for a puppet show…Since a world racer doesn’t normally carry a puppet show in their backpack we had to get creative. We bought some socks for hand puppets at the local Maxi Bodega along with some other supplies. We also found a little Bible story book in Spanish on which to base the puppet show. So it would be “David y Goliat” in the battle of “los Filesteos y los Israelitas”
We gathered the church kids, about 7 or so, and started with our games. Since our church is very small, consisting of one room and the back door area that is about the size of an American bathroom, we had to lead our games on the cement area by the road. The space was limited, but being out on the main road meant that all the local kids saw us and wanted to join. Soon we had about 17 children in our group. Praise the Lord! All the children came to the puppet show and heard about our powerful God who enabled David to win the victory against Goliath. They also were able to make a shield out of a Styrofoam plate with the Psalm 28:7 written on it, “The Lord is my strength and my shield”
