The traffic here is absolutely ridiculous, and I don’t say that lightly. Of all the places I have visited thus far, Europe, Central and South America and Thailand this traffic is truly the worst. Just about every person here owns a “moto” or motorized scooter/motorcycle and they all like to drive them at the same time. The problem here is that there truly is a complete lack of traffic laws and signals. Traffic never really stops at an intersection…you just go. If there is no room on the road for you, hey, there is a sidewalk. If you need to turn left against traffic you just edge your way in the lane and cross hoping, and in my case praying to God, that the other motorists don’t crash into you.
Now, with regards to the title, I mention Frogger in relation to crossing the street on foot. Again, many prayers have been said, but there is nothing like the feeling of standing in the middle of a busy street and have about two or three motos headed straight for you while waiting for a hole in the traffic going the opposite direction in order to continue crossing. Thoughts of “Oh dear Lord” scream through your mind while the motos veer right or left around you missing you by about a foot. Hence the question, “Do you want to play Frogger?” Just keep in mind that you only have one life…and that is your own.
“Why don’t you go to a cross walk or wait for a space in both sides of traffic?” You may ask. Well the answer is that we are at the appropriate crossing areas and if I were to always wait for a space in both sides of traffic, I think I would still be on the other side of the street from my hotel waiting from the first night that I arrived here in town.
Now for those of you who may worry at this blog, please don’t, but pray for us and know that we take every ounce of caution possible out here. We are in God’s mighty hand and I trust him with my life, literally.
