So I wanted to hop on here and tell you all about community living.
So this is my very first time I’ve ever live in a community other then my family and even that was 5 years ago.
Honestly I’ve had a lot of adjusting to do.
I want to tell you my top 10 of community living.
1. As a person who enjoys quiet time and personal space, community has been interesting. You have to be creative when trying to find time away from the constant noise. I found headphones to be helpful. Also finding empty rooms to spend hours in has also been delightful.
2. 27 people sharing 1 bathroom is doable. Find a shower time that works best for you. I showered at 6am or 10 PM, most people were sleeping at those times or doing team activities.
3. I had to learn very quickly that not everyone thought like me. I have to constantly down my pride.
Love seeks to understand.
4. I learned that everyone had different comfort levels. Its important to communicate if your comfortable with a topic or not.
5. Its important to ask for what you need. You can assume someone can read your mind, or you can be open about what you need. I’ve actually gotten really good at that.
6. Your definition of things might be different then someone else’s. Always communicate with the person especially if its something that may be misunderstood.
7. Community draws out a lot of different quirks that you didnt know you had. For example I dont like when people floss outside of the bathroom.
8. Community lifts up your talents and encourages you to use then boldly.
9. Community teaches you flexibility.
10. Lastly community forces you to have hard conversations that you would have other wise walked away from.
I’ve enjoyed being in community these past 2 months. It has been challenging but very much worth it.
