We are living in the small village of Nsoko, Swaziland. It is literally in the middle of nowhere. Beautiful mountains along with free-range cattle, goats and plenty of poultry surround us. We are living next door to a feeding center that feeds about 50 kids every day from around the community. A bobo (or grandmother) usually cooks each day for the kids but today I was able to help her and cooked the rice over a wood fire on the dirt floor and stirred it with a stick; not something I can say I do everyday.
These feeding centers are located all around Swaziland and provide what is usually the only meal these kids will eat all day. The food is provided by international hunger initiatives and the box of food they used today had a label on it from Kids International in New Hope, MN. It is amazing to think that organizations I have never even heard of but are only 10 min from my house are providing the food for these kids to survive in this unknown village of Swaziland.
We are living in the local community center so kids are constantly running around and staring at us through our windows along with goats and poultry. This month we are cooking all of our own food over a gas stove we light with a torch and we burn all of our trash (including our toilet paper) in a pit outside. We also hand wash all of our laundry in a bucket and wear long skirts and T-shirts everyday. I can already tell it is going to be an amazing month and I can’t wait to see what God is going to do in Swaziland.
I also still have $1,000 left to raise by March 1st or I may have to go home. Please consider donating online at my blog or you can send checks to the address below:
