A little over a year ago I was on a short-term mission trip in Nicaragua. While there, we visited a place called La Chureca, a garbage dump in the city of Managua. The city dump is the home to families who live and work each day. As we followed a line of garbage trucks in, vultures circled our window—I felt as if I was entering Hell and I questioned–Where is God in this pitiful place?

While those three hours spent in La Chureca made me want to do more—I prayed that God would NEVER send me back to a place like that again.

Signing up for the World Race, I thought that I was mainly in for a great adventure, never imagining that God would send our team to a place like La Chureca-and not just for 3 hours but 28 DAYS!

SO… month 1 of this 11 month journey where does God send me? Back to the place that had wrecked me so bad the first time.

Day 1 of ministry and here I am walking in rubber boots through garbage and human feces only to arrive at the PCF Community church. A place of refuge and love in the middle of Tondo, one of the largest dump sites in the world and home to over 30,000 families.

Luke 1:79 says “we are to give light to those who sit in darkness and to guide our feet into the way of peace.” While initially I questioned where God was in these places I now realize that He is there through us—God has handpicked me to bring peace and love to the darkest places.
