After arriving in Johannesburg, South Africa we climbed on a bus destined for Cape Town.
While the majority of our squad was not looking forward to being stuck on a bus for 20 hours, I was excited to see the African countryside. South Africa ended up being more beautiful than I had imagined. As the sun came up, huge mountains extended into the distance.
God really does know me. I have always loved the mountains and have dreamed of living near them since I was little. In God’s great love, He has placed me in some of the most beautiful mountainous areas in all of creation; first Tibet and now Cape Town.
Once we made it to Cape Town our contact Pastor Victoria met us at the bus station. Our team was so excited to finally have a contact because this is the first month we have a specific person we get to work with.
She brought us to the church we will be working in for the month, Christ Amazing Love Ministries. We thought we were going to be staying in the church but she told us that she wanted us to become apart of their families so she is going to have us stay with people from the church.
Ashley and I are staying with Pastor Victoria, her husband and two kids, Chinaiza and Popo. They have been such a blessing to us already and have welcomed us in as if we are a part of their family.
This month has already been hard for our team because first we are all separated between three homes and second we are still unsure where we can really help. It feels as if we are being given so much by our hosts but don’t know how we can bless them.
They have told us about a couple of things they would like help with; I have been asked to do a business seminar for local business owners, teaching them about good financial stewardship and encouraging them to run Christ centered businesses.
We are also going to be visiting a lot of the outreaches within the community such as a local orphanage, a township, a disabled home and an elderly home. Most of all we will be learning about their culture, encouraging their church and loving the people we are surrounded by.
But the best part of this month so far was Wendy’s return! It is so wonderful to have her back–Team L.O.L is finally complete.
