One of the great things about the World Race is that is teaches you to be flexible and lay all your expectations at the foot of the cross. This past week we were supposed to visit some members of the church we are partnered with this month in order to pray over their new shrimp farm. We were supposed to leave at 9:00 am. We get a call from our host telling us that we are not going to go because the man is embarrassed  about pipe everywhere and is not ready. We say “No problem pastor!” He tells he will come and get us as soon as the cable guy at the church is done so that we can go visit another member of the church. Well, cable guys is Thailand are similar to those in America. They might get half way through a job and “need a part” and disappear. After a full day of sitting around our little house, having some rap battles and watching one of our resident cats chow down on a lizard we are picked up for some fellowship, worship and prayer down the road at the church. Little did we know what we were in for.

Let me just tell you that a key board, a full drum set, an amped guitar, a kahone, a jimbe (my apologies for the butchered spelling) , and two tambourines can make quite a cacophony. We proceeded to project up beat worship music and dance around the small house church. We finished with the David crowder version of I’ll fly away. And let me tell you, we went ALL OUT. There was line dancing, dosie-doe-ing (I have no idea how to spell that term) and overall hoedown merriment. It was fantastic!

It was incredible to see the joy of the Lord in this small community of believers. They truly believe in the power of the Holy Spirit and in the purpose of worship. Worship isn’t just singing along with a very talented group of musicians while they exercise their gift (even though that is a fantastic way to worship), it isn’t simply standing in one spot with one or (if you’re really holy) two hands raised. Worship is so much more. Worship is glorifying the Lord in all his goodness, in all his creativity, in all of his mercy. Worship is recognizing the majesty of our creator and telling him. I have started really enjoying art as a form of worship. I enjoy drawing what is around me or pictures the Lord gives me during prayer. In that time I simply reflect on the goodness of my Heavenly Father.

I challenge you to find one new way or worshiping this week!

Until next time, Gig’em and God bless!
