This month we had the opportunity to go to, and lead several youth groups. They varied from pep-rally to prep-school. We had the privilege of visiting a school where a lot of children go who’s parents are officials of celebrities in some way. One of the students we talked to had been on the national ruby team. He was 17. Needless to say these kids have every opportunity afforded them and yet they are still just as in need of the gospel as the ones in ward three, where they don’t know where their next meal is going to come from.

These young adults LOVE the Lord. Genuinely. Their walk with the Lord is inspiring. As we talked to the chaplain of the school he told us that the students there has been over evangelized and that we needed to give them something real to chew on when we led the youth group that following Sunday evening. They’ve heard the gospel. They KNOW the gospel. They are now onto the harder doctrinal and faith building questions.

As Sunday night approached we had other youth groups to prepare for, one working through the character of David and another worthing through how personality traits and spiritual gifts are connected. Yeah. What did your high school youth group work through? Woof. But they can do it. They are so capable! So we decided to recycle the lesson about personality and spiritual gifts for the Christian Union at Lomagundi College.

The worship was phenomenal, the best worship I had experienced in a while. (I am gaining more and more appreciation, respect for and wonder at the Lord’s gifts to worship leaders.) I couldn’t see the students as Emily and Sylvia started to work through the lesson they had prepared since I was sitting in then front row. I was just praying that the Lord was moving. After we finished the chaplain was so excited as he approached the from of the assembly. He explained that they had talked about spiritual gifts the week before, but that they felt like they had had to rush through it, they they had been forced to skip over some stuff for the sake of time. It makes sense, there’s a lot to cover. But he was confident the Lord had ordained that lesson to reenforce the lesson from the previous week. He was confident, and so were we, that the Lord was really trying to get to a few of the students to really start to try and explore their spiritual gift at the beginning of the term. Jesus is doing something big in that school and consequently big in that country. With those kids on the fast track to leadership both professionally and spiritually, I cannot wait to see all the things that Jesus is going to do in Zimbabwe with this rising generation.
