She started to take off her bra and explain how we were supposed to rub her limbs with a lotion not unlike Vicks vapor rub.

It had all started last night. We had walked to this woman’s house under the impression that we were going to pray for her.

No big deal right? I can hold a hand and pray for someone.

She had been diagnosed with breast cancer and had surgery to remove one breast. Ever since the surgery she has struggled with swelling in her limbs and stiffness in her body.  If she doesn’t rub this lotion on her body at night the pain makes it hard for her to sleep.

So my team and I stood beside her bed as she laid there topless and wondered what the crap we had gotten into.  With wide eyes and complete disbelief in our hearts we went to work.

Let me tell you sometimes being the hands and feet of Jesus gets you into some dirty places.  It makes you do some uncomfortable things.

And as I massaged Vicks vapor rub into this woman’s crusty feet I was reminded of Jesus washing the disciples feet.  I was reminded that I wasn’t here for myself, I wasn’t here to have an easy time or to do only the ministry that I was comfortable with.

I am on the Race to get dirty and to be uncomfortable because that’s where God shows up.
