South Africa is a place full of so much beauty and so much heart break. Over the last two months I have been living in a town called Ocean View. It’s a town run by crystal myth and gang violence. When you lay in bed at night some times you hear gun shots. Walking down the road knives and guns get flashed at you so often it becomes the new normal. When we tell people from surrounding areas where we are living they say “Oh wow you live in Ocean View!? Do you feel safe?” But the answer is yes. Over the last two months we’ve been spending our mornings doing door to door ministry. Basically we just walk around Ocean View and knock on people’s doors and tell them about Jesus. May seem crazy in a neighborhood like this right? But in reality we get welcomed with open arms. People see us coming and yell out their windows and doors for us to come to their house next. The truth of the matter is most people would avoid places and people like this but the cool thing is Jesus doesn’t. He doesn’t care where we come from or who we use to be. The Lord just simply wants to love us; and us to love his people. Ocean View has shown me this in so many ways. I’ve been able to pray over people who need employment or need healing from cancer. We’ve been able to build friendships with people who have been such a blessing to me and my team. My time here has been hard but it’s been such a time for growth within my self. Learning to accept my circumstances and love where I am just as the Lord calls me to do.
