FAQ
1. What is your favorite memory?
-
I honestly can’t give you a definate answer. Chances are, every time you ask me this, the answer will be different. The past 9 months have been filled to the brim with fun/funny memories, but I will give you a few that stand out the most to me.
1. Going to Athens, Greece for 48 hours and exploring what I had only learned about in books.
2. Spending the night on an island with a great group of people.
3. Living in Africa. Hands down I have loved every single moment here. But I have loved seeing all of God’s glory manifested in this beautiful place.
2. What has been your favorite country?
-
SOUTH AFRICA. Hands down. I have wanted to come here since I understood what Africa was (thanks Papa).
3. What has been the hardest part of the Race?
-
Being away from home sucks. But the hardest part would probably be seeing things that break your heart, every. single. day.
4. How do you think you have changed/grown?
-
I think my prayer life has changed, my worship has changed, my relationship with God has grown immensely, I have grown in patience and gratitude. I have grown in my confidence in who God says I am. I have learned how to seek joy in the midst of sorrow and pain. I have learned to find peace in a storm.
5. What are you most excited for, coming back home?
-
I am obviously so excited to see my family and friends. I am excited to see how much God has worked in their lives and what is new and different with everyone. I am excited to get involved in my church community again and to reconnect with everyone!
6. What is something that living in community has taught you?
-
Living in community has been one of the hardest and most rewarding things. On this trip, I learned what community looked like in a whole different light. I was asked to be around the same people every waking moment. I was asked to continue to show them grace and love. I was asked to die to myself every single day and to seek God in ways that I never thought possible. I was asked to stand beside my teammates as they rejoiced, and struggled. I was asked to serve people in multiple different ways and to learn to love in ways that I was not used to. I found myself pouring out and pouring out, even when it was in no way returned, or sometimes, even accepted. I shared a pullout couch for 3 months in Albania and then laid beside my teammate when we were both suffering from spiritual warfare in the Philippines. I laughed and cried with my teammates. I mourned their losses and their hardships. I found joy in their laughter and successes. I forgave hurts and worked at rebuilding relationships that were struggling. I failed sometimes, and then sought God and tried again. Living in such a tight community for 9 months has been so hard, yet so so rewarding. I am so thankful that I got to experience it and because of it, see a glimpse of how God truly wants us to live together in harmony and love. I saw a glimpse of how He loves us, and how He wants us to love.
7. What is your favorite verse and book of the Bible?
-
These past 3 months, I have really been pressing into who God says I am and what He calls me. I did a study on the Song of Solomon and I actually fell in love with that book. I love the parallels and the verses of pure adoration and love. Right now, as crazy as it sounds, I think that is my favorite book. My favorite verse as of now is Deuteronomy 4:24 “For the Lord your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.”
