We are currently in Uganda, most recently famous for the Invisible Children. If you’ve never heard of the Invisible Children, I encourage you to google it and see what has been happening in this beautiful country. We have the privilege this month of working with a Pastor Naboth, he is an amazing man and I love having him as our contact. He is also a very busy man, he has planted 191 churches in Uganda, he has visited America once and while there planted a church for Chinese people in Atlanta, GA, he started an orphanage that currently houses 746 children and he has a wife and 5 children of his own. He is a champ if I’ve ever known one, but he is not the least bit conceited in any of this, he gives all credit and all glory to the Lord.
Our ministry for the month is somewhat all over the place and we’ve had a few days already where we haven’t done much of anything, but after 6 months of traveling, rest can sometimes be the best ministry. We have already spent one day at the orphanage, which to be honest when you see 746 children staring at you, it’s a bit overwhelming, but I soon found out that this was no ordinary orphanage. This is a school as well and the teachers are AMAZING! The children are fantastically smart and well mannered and they love to play with “Muzungu” hair! We spent one day preaching to the students 16-18 years old for three hours, then watching part of a football (think soccer) match, then preached for about an hour to another school of 16-18 year olds. We saw many of the students come to know Jesus and it was such a blessing. We spent a few hours one evening with the church as they held an overnight prayer, we danced with them and preached. During the month we are planning on hold multiple crusades, travelling to the north to hold a crusade in a village that was attacked by the leader of the LRA (Lord’s Resistance Army – once again if you don’t know look up Invisible Children), building a bathroom, preaching on Sundays and playing with children.
We’ve learned from our pastor that these children have become orphans by many ways. Parents killed during the war, parents that died of sickness, abandonment because the parents could not afford the children, and some of these children even fought as part of the LRA. So we get to spend this month loving on some kids in crazy ways. Pulling them out of the classroom and spending time with them one on one and just letting them know that we travelled all the way around the world just to tell them that Jesus loves them and so do we.
We get to speak many times to a country hungry for love and hungry for God’s word. Please be praying for us in all these ventures. Pray that God will keep us safe from sickness (malaria is frequent here), that we will always have a word to speak from the Lord, that we will have abundant love for these children and that we will focus our eyes fully on what God has for us this month.
