Fun Fact: Costa Ricans don’t like it when you use red ink to write because it is only used for underlining and checking things off.

I have been teaching an Art class at La Cometa for weeks now! La Cometa is located in a placed called Tirrases. It is a giant gated community full of refugees from Nicaragua. We teach women, men, and we play games with kids. I took the responsibility of teaching art and it was the best decision I could have made! Some of my other teammates teach yoga and dance as well.

Each time we have a class I get the same two loyal locals. One is an older women and the other is a middle aged dad who teaches jewelry making classes at La Cometa as well. We get to play games with his daughter and son on Wednesdays. It is so fun getting to know them and grow relationship. I have taught the them about the color wheel, shading techniques, value scales, and this last week I incorporated paint into everything we have learned so far. We bought paints, brushes, and even got them big cardboard squares to just let there imagination run wild. This class in particular has just full of encouragement for me. I was giving a big thanks to my Mamaw throughout the class for giving me ability to paint.

I went to start the class and the older women pulled out her paper from the week before all completed. I asked them to do the back side of a work sheet for homework because we would be using the techniques during the class for the next week. They listened to me, they respected my authority no matter the language barrier or age difference. They had fun so they enjoyed practicing in there free time! It was so cool for me to just hear the Lord say look, you are showing them love so they want to listen to the things you have to say. After that, the man gave me a bracelet one of his students made. It said Pura Vida and he remembered me talking about how much I loved that saying in the previous class! Then he asked if I would help him paint his picture because he liked my painting ability! It was a special moment for me, I was smiling so hard that’s for sure. Once the class was almost over I asked the lady if there was anything specific she wanted me to teach on. She said no, nothing specific she just enjoyed what I taught and how good I did at teaching it. She smiled and said I just like being apart of this class. What an encouragement from the Lord through that sweet women! I was needing some encouragement and the Lord gave it to me in the best way possible! I thought I would teach on this journey, I just thought it would be English or something. It’s so fun to watch the way the Lord works in unexpected ways!

So thanks God!!

Yours the coolest!!
