To say the call to full-time mission work is hard is an incredible understatement. Every day seems to be a new opportunity for Christ to teach me something new about Himself, and my own identity found in Him. I have often asked myself about why He called me to such as this. To a life of uncertain circumstances, sharing His love with the unlovable, and venturing into uncharted territory, likely full of danger.

So, what has He told me about this? What is His reasoning for this call, rather than something more practical or “normal”? Firstly, He has called everyone to share the gospel. Not just missionaries overseas, not just pastors, and not just Christian-speakers. Jesus Christ called EVERYONE to spread His gospel to the nations. Now, this does not mean everyone will do this in the form of foreign missions. This means that everyone will share the gospel, no matter their vocation or lifestyle.

Secondly, this life is not a sacrifice. Although it requires many acts of sacrifice, what I gain in Christ is so much greater than anything I could ever give. My flesh wants to see this trip as me giving up everything, but my God says I am gaining everything. It is an honor to share the salvation through Jesus Christ with those who have never heard of it. I see how blessed I am that I was born in a place that learning about Jesus and the cross is second nature, while there are people all over the world who are not given that same opportunity. If I can do anything to help that cause, I will.

Jesus Christ gave me a call that is completely uncomfortable. It is completely unnatural. I do not know why He decided to give this call to someone like me. To call me to His lost children on the other side of the world. The one thing I do know is that He did, not because He calls me qualified, but because He calls me His child. And that is more than enough.
