Fun fact: Porta-Potties are gross. I mean, grrooossss. For the past 2 weeks, I have only used porta-potties at training camp. Really roughing it here, people. I wouldn’t consider myself high maintenance by any means, but I also wouldn’t consider myself Bear Grylls. In other words, I wasn’t exactly comfortable this week. Mainly with the bathroom situation.

Sharing the gospel can be as uncomfortable as using a porta-potty. An uncomfortable, offensive bathroom. An uncomfortable, offensive gospel. Something I tossed around my head all of training camp was the idea that the gospel I preach is offensive. We spend so much time trying to censor ourselves in order to not offend those around us that we forget that our gospel isn’t meant to make people comfortable. For instance, I have this couch in my room in DC. It is SO comfortable. When you sit on it, you sink into it. It’s like a warm hug. Now, because I’m so comfortable there, I don’t see the point of sitting anywhere else. I definitely don’t see the reason to ever get a new one. The same thing can be said of the gospel. The gospel should push us past comfort and into a life of longing for MORE. God will offend your mind to affect your heart. He will call out your faults to showcase His perfection. He will wreck your life so He can mold it into a mosaic worthy of carrying His name.

Don’t be afraid to share the gospel. Yes, it’s uncomfortable. Yes, it’s offensive. Yes, it’s terrifying. But isn’t He worthy of it all? There are going to be times when you share the gospel, and don’t see anything happen. There is always a possibility that nothing will change. But what if something does?

This is the porta-potty gospel. One of difficulties, offensive content, hard seasons, and strong convictions. But nothing is more revitalizing than the rush of wind that blows after you open the door. A fresh start, with a story to tell. Let’s stop being selfish with the story God has given us to share. Take your feelings out of the gospel, pick up your cross, and follow Him.

Porta-potties for life,

Madison
