Last night, part of X Squad went into the oldest red light district in Bangkok to share the gospel with prostitutes and “Johns” (the men, mostly foreigners, who purchase women).

The three racers I was with and I walked the streets asking God to guide us.

We met a man who, in broken English, invited us to his bar and brothel. As we walked up the stairs, we could feel the heaviness of slavery looming over us.

“Jesus, help us,” I prayed aloud.

The man then passed us off to the Madame of the house and she showed us to a lounge area.

“Can I buy time with one of your girls?” I asked.

She nodded towards a group of women in the center of the room and told us to pick one.

“Do any of them speak English?”

She waved one over, and May introduced herself as she sat next to us.

“Can we buy you a drink?” May smiled and ordered a coke.

One of the racers asked May about her hobbies and another asked her about her story. May told us about dreams she had of going to school but also about her lack of money in being able to make ends meet. She also told us about her mother who had sent her to Bangkok 10 years prior in order for her to ‘make a living’.

I asked May if she had ever heard of a man named Jesus – she hadn’t. We shared the gospel with her and told her all about the love of Christ.

“May, did you know that God loves you?”

She looked very confused as she nervously laughed saying, “He loves me? Me?”

We assured her that God loves her with a big love. We also told her how God had sent us specifically to speak to her. She was shocked by all of this. – our God, full of grace and mercy, doesn’t always make sense to our human selves.

May told us that she had never heard this before but that she wanted to spend time researching more into Jesus. We swapped contact information and will follow up with her this week.

** Buying time with a prostitute was very uncomfortable for me, but if I need to step out of my comfort zone in order for someone to know Christ, count me in.

I left this brothel knowing how beautifully God is pursuing His daughter who He deeply loves. May is one of thousands trapped in a red light district that desperately needs the Light of the World.

Please be praying for our follow up and for God to reveal Himself in big ways to our new friend!
