I didn’t realize how big the power of prayer was until I started praying big prayers. I don’t know about you but I often limit God in what he can do. I ask for provision but I don’t give him an exact amount… I ask for guidance but I don’t give specifics. I ask him for protection of my family but not to miraculously heal someone of an illness.

My God is a big God who wants to hear big prayers.

I had to raise $18,700 for the race and since May 20th my friend Sarah Crowder and I prayed for my provision every single night before we went to bed together. On July 18th I had raised $1,325 and needed $5,000 more to meet the deadline in two days. I knew God was going to provide the $5,000 because every night we had come to him in asking for it.

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God…” Philippians 4:6

I started to make a few phone calls to people who I thought would give me $100-$200. After a few hours I got a phone call from a woman who wanted to give me $1,000! After a few more hours I got a call from a man who wanted to give me another $1,000! Now I only needed $1,675 more to make the goal of $5,000. Before I went to sleep one of my friends posted about me needed to hit this goal for my mission trip. When I woke up There was over $2,000 in my Venmo account! God provided more than enough for me to pay the $5,000!

I started to realize how big God was. I had been fundraising for 2 months on my own and God wanted me to wait until the last few hours so I had to depend on him. My next big prayer was to be fully funded before I left the United States! We didn’t have to have the money until the end of January, but I knew God was big and he could provide the rest by October.

The day of launch came around and I was about $2,000 short of fully funded. I woke up that morning and started begging God to do something big that day. So I went to instagram and facebook and started asking people for $5! I hopped on the plane to LA lacking $2,000 and when I landed I had $1,799 in my Venmo account and another $200 in my donations account. God had done it again. He provided the exact amount needed in his time, not mine.

So why don’t we make our prayers tangible? Are we scared he won’t answer them? Or do we think we are being demanding? God wants his children to ask him for big things. Asking for good health is like asking your dad for a lollipop. Asking for complete healing of a tumor is like asking your dad for a celebration feast. God wants to give us a celebration feast… but if we don’t ask we will only keep receiving lollipops.
