Hey friends! I made a goal at the beginning of the race to share a photo blog once a month to update my supporters on how life on the field is going. Month 1 is a bit overdue but better late than never, right? For the first month we only had our phones on weekends so this photo blog lacks many good photos from ministry. I will make sure to make up for it in months to come! Here’s a blog with a month full of what life looks like in Quito, Ecuador. (I know the formatting is messed up – I tried my best. Sad.)

We are staying in Quito, Ecuador for the first two months of the world race. This sign is in Catalina Park.

The first month of our race the boys on our squad had to sleep in tents. The three dogs we live with are Sonny, Guapa, and Lula.

My squadmate, Caleb, and I are quite the artists.

Masterpieces by Caleb and I.

Give us today our daily bread. The local market sells croissants and bread empanadas for twenty cents. Addicting!

What it looks like to watch a movie in a house with fifty people. Starts with two people and soon enough theres 11 people surrounding a small macbook air watching Cheaper by the Dozen.

A view from above the Otavalo market. It’s the largest market in Latin America. We really enjoyed all the colors & the cool products being sold! Beautiful culture seen all over the market.

Allyson’s birthday. We surprised her all day and the finale was her favorite: steak tacos.

Our ministry for three days a week is helping out at an after school program. The younger kids love to play Uno.

Before the younger kids arrive for lunch, games, and homework help we spend a lot of time weeding and helping around the garden. We also spent a week painting a sidewalk game for the kids to enjoy.

One of the girls at our after school program. They are so sweet and love to team up in Uno.

On the way to debrief! Debrief happens three times during the race and its five days of rest/reflection. Our first debrief was four hours away from Quito!

The view from my hostel room at debrief.

We arrived to debrief with our names beautifully written on our door. A few days later we returned from adventuring to sweet notes written by one of our squadmates. Wow. So blessed. :’)

Up in the mountains near the Casa Del Arbol. The mountains made me feel so tiny.

Casa Del Arbol swing.

Zip lining with Dan and Allyson! It was so fun and so much cheaper than in the states.

Next week my blog will be a Q&A! If you have questions please either text me them, email me them ([email protected]), facebook message them, or comment them! Thanks to everyone for the encouraging texts and prayers. I’ve been super homesick lately so all encouragement is appreciated. Love!!!
