James 5:12 “But above all, my brothers, do not swear, either by heaven or by earth or by any other oath, but let your “yes” be yes and your “no” be no, so that you may not fall under condemnation.”

On Saturday morning, I told one of my teammates, Liz, that I would go to a free art class with her on Sunday morning at 11am. By saturday evening, some plans had been made between the 2 teams. One of my squad mates birthdays was Sunday and she wanted to have brunch with the teams at 11am. I was so excited because I LOVE birthdays!! I told everyone I was going to go to the brunch on Sunday. I asked Liz if she was going to go to the brunch, and she said she was still going to go to the art class, because she had already told the art teacher she would be there and our ministry host had asked us to make sure someone was there a couple of days a week. I continued to try and convince Liz that our ministry host would be ok with her not going, because it was for one of our squad mates birthday’s, but she felt convicted and was going to go to the art class.

Sunday morning, we had a meeting with both teams together and someone asked who was going to go to the art class, and without thinking, the words, “I will go with Liz!” came out of my mouth. I sat and thought about it after I had already responded and was a little bummed I was going to be missing the brunch, but decided that going with Liz was what the Lord was telling me to do.

The sculpting art class Sunday morning was incredible! Liz and I had such a great time. We made clay sculptures, and were able to drink hot tea and have such a great conversation with the art teacher. It was relaxing, and honestly, it was a breath of fresh air.

Once we left the art class, we were able to meet the rest of the teams and catch the end of brunch with them. It was great! Liz and I were left there to finish our food, just the 2 of us. We had been to this restaurant a few times before and loved it every time. But this time, as we got up to pay and leave, our waiter asked us how we liked Sombor and just started opening up to both of us. He told us about his family, his outlook on life, the history of Sombor and about how he is a basketball coach, but can’t play anymore because of an injury to his knee. As soon as he said this, I felt the Holy Spirit telling me to ask our waiter if I could pray for him. As I was listening to him continue to tell us about his life, I silently prayed and asked the Lord to give me an opportunity to pray for him. The conversation came to a close and I immediately spoke up and asked what was wrong with his knee. He told us that he doesn’t have a meniscus anymore and that the 2 bones in his knee rub together. I asked him if I could pray for his knee. He replied yes. I asked him if Liz and I could lay hands on his knee while we prayed. He replied yes again. In the middle of the cafe and in the middle of the town square, I prayed healing over his knee that day and although a miracle didn’t happen immediately, I am believing that the Lord is going to heal his knee and completely restore it.

Had I not been obedient to the conviction from the Lord, I would have gotten up and left that cafe when the rest of my teammates did. We never would have stayed behind to hear our waiters story, to share the Lord with him, or to pray with him.

Lesson of the day: let my “yes” be yes and my “no” be no.

I feel super convicted about this and am asking my team to hold me accountable to this. I want to be a woman of loyalty and I want my teammates and other people to be able to trust my word when I tell them I’m going to do something. It was a great conversation between Liz and I, and shined light on things that I need to take to the Lord and ask Him to help me be more aware/intentional about.

Great lessons were learned today, and I would have missed it all, had I not been obedient. I’m thankful for the voice of the Lord and for conviction from the Lord. It was such a great day of ministry.

As always, thank you for reading!
